Police officers face difficult challenges every day. Our jobs can be dangerous, frustrating, even tedious, but law enforcement is a tremendously rewarding career. Police officers significantly improve the quality of life for the citizens of their communities by keeping the peace despite sometimes overwhelming odds.

Once every 58 hours an officer dies in the line of duty. Over the last decade, more than 1,600 police officers have been killed in the line of duty. Each one of these deaths is a tragedy that causes unimaginable pain for the family, friends, colleagues, and communities of the fallen officer.

The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Wichita, Lodge #5 has served the men and women of the Wichita Police Department (WPD) since 1973. We have chosen to expand our efforts of protecting officers by creating The Honore Adversis Foundation.

As a nonprofit [501(c) (3)] organization, The Honore Adversis Foundation relies on the generosity of individuals, organizations, and corporations to carry out our mission statement of providing timely and critical financial assistance or services for line of duty deaths, serious injury, medical conditions, and personal hardships.

The Foundation has further expanded its work to provide financial assistance or services to any law enforcement officer employed by a municipal, county, or state agency within Sedgwick County, Kansas for line of duty death or serious injury.

The FOP sponsors and supports several keystone events throughout the year including the Show-N-Shine Car Show, Hero Ride, and Support Local Law Enforcement Community Parade which allows the FOP the opportunity to give back to the community they protect and serve, while improving community relations and highlighting the positive side of police work.

These gifts of financial assistance or services are reviewed and approved by The Honore Adversis Foundation Executive Board members who are all volunteers for the foundation and Wichita Police Department members.  All monies raised go directly to officers and/or their families who meet the mission statement criteria.

But there is much work to do because the need is great. Would you consider joining me in making a tax-deductible gift today to honor and assist our officers and their families in their greatest time of need? Any gift amount meaningful to is greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at or (316) 461-7630. We look forward to hearing from you.
